Former G12s with DR in Eastern Germany

 

In Western Germany, DB got rid of their ex-Prussian G12s until early 1950s. With DR, however, they soldiered on for almost thirty years longer. These photos have been taken from my collection.

58 427 (Hartmann 4392/1921) was originally delivered to the railways of Saxony as No. 1211; it went to DR, was re-numbered 58 1427-2 in 1970 and withdrawn in November 1974. Photo taken at the Dresden-Friedrichstadt depot on July 18, 1973, by Rudi Lehmann.

 

 

Former No. 1125 of Badenian railways (MBG 2153/1921), this locomotive was later impressed into DRG as 58 311, then into DR as 58 1111. It has been preserved and is currently owned by Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde. Location and date unknown.

 

 

Ex-KPEV Köln 5566 (Borsig 10258/1918), then Saarbrücken 5681, finally DRG 58 1103, this locomotive survived in the DR service until June 1972. Saalfeld, Germany, May 1971.

 

 

Reko 58 3007 began its life as KPEV Hannover 5582 (Rheinmetall 69/1921) and was re-numbered 58 2068 by DRG. Withdrawn in February 1980. Glauchau, Germany, date unknown.

 

 

Former KPEV Köln 5639 (Henschel 17071/1920) was impressed into DRG as 58 1800. Withdrawn in October 1982, it survived in Zwickau until April 1985. Aue, Germany, December 1973.

 

 

DR 58 1246 was ex-KPEV Frankfurt 5601 (Henschel 16604/1919). Withdrawn in February 1977, it remained in use as a stationary unit at the Riesa depot until February 1989. Oberoderwitz, Germany, June 17, 1973.

 

 

Former Saarbrücken 5660 (Hanomag 9205/1920), this locomotive later became DRG 58 1758 and remained in the DR service until October 1976. Riesa, Germany, 1970.

 

 

58 1934-7, ex-KPEV Erfurt 5651 (Linke-Hofmann 2006/1920), photographed in Schwarzenberg, Germany, in summer 1975. This engine was withdrawn in November 1977. Postcard.
